Process

So Jack, tell the Habit fans a little about yourself… how would you describe your sound in three words?

Warm Up Sounds

When and how did you get into djing?

A few friends had turntables and used to play Hard House and House. I was more of a Drum and Bass head at the time but I still went round to theirs for a mix now and again. One day I decided to buy a few DnB tunes at Massive Records and went to a friends to have a play on their decks afterwards. After a couple of weeks and a couple of trips to various record shops, I decided now was the time to get my own setup. I got myself a set of 1210′s on credit and a  pal of mine, Tom Belte, sold me his old mixer and the rest as they say is history.

Where else do you dj?

The Custard Factory/Medicine Bar

What is your best ever gig?

For my 22nd birthday me and a load of mates went to a Hospitality night at The Custard Factory. A beautiful summers night with great mates and my favourite DJ’s all playing cracking sets.

All time top three tunes?

This is a tough one. Probably these:

Nu:tone – Strange Encounter,

Burial – Etched Headplate

Black Moon – How Many MC’s

Who are your favourite dj’s and why?

Jazzy Jeff – I’ve never seen him live but I’ve listened to a lot of his mix-tapes and they’re an awesome mix of Hip Hop, Funk and Soul blended together beautifully.

Logistics – One of my favourite producers. When he plays out, he reads the crowd brilliantly. Tune after tune, he keeps the room packed and bumping. Whether you’re into Drum and Bass or not, I’m sure you’d be impressed.

Geiom – Managed to catch him a couple of years to a packed out crowd of about 20 people, which was a shame. It was an hour of musical education, a real treat for the ears.

What is your favourite film?

Shawshank Redemption

Finally, why do you love playing at Habit?

The atmosphere is electric and the music policy is tip top. Great tunes and great people from start to finish.
