Jim Ryan

So Jim, tell the Habit fans a little about yourself… how would you describe your sound in one sentence?

……My sound is Funky,Bumpy,Head bopping House Music!

When and how did you get into djing?

Well it first started when i started going to Gatecrasher in Sheffield in !998/1999,it was the first proper club i’d been to and i was blown away by the music. I loved watching the dj’s and thought i’d have a go so i bought

a pair of belt drive decks and a mixer, went to HMV in Leicester, bought a few records and went from there!

Best set you have witnessed?

The best set i have witnessed has got to be Cassius at the first Gatecrasher Summer sound System in Stratford, I remember them playing “Feeling for you” and just going absolutely mental!

What is your ultimate midnight tune?

Ultimate midnight tune has got to be Bob Sinclair “I Feel For You” absolute banger!

What other genres are you into apart from house?

I love techno, drum n bass, classic hard house, i really into bands as well my faves are Kings of Leon, Florence and the machine, Jamie T and jack Penate….pretty much anything apart from Hip Hop!

Who are your favourite producers and why?

My face producers at the moment are chris carrier, Ian Pooley, Spencer Parker, Nick Curly and Phil Weeks. I’m really loving the old school house sound around at the minute.

Favourite mix album?

Favourite mix album will always be Gatecrasher Black, its where it all started for me, I love every tune on there and still listen to it now.

Finally, why do you love playing at Habit?

I love playing Habit because its such an amazing party! Everybody there is out for a good time and it never fails to go off. Its makes a massive difference to play for a brand that does it for the love of the music not the money. The Habit boys love what they do and it reflects in the parties they put on. I’m proper honoured to be a part of the re-launch and can’t wait to get behind those decks again!
